You Will Not Be Shaken

Hebrews 12:26-27 | NIV “At that time His voice shook the earth, but now He has promised, Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens. The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken – that is, created things – so that what cannot be shaken may remain.

The most striking lesson for me from the pandemic in the world today is that of trust. Trust in God. He is the only unshakable factor. Everything that once mattered and considered so important suddenly lost their relevance and importance. All the ‘must-dos’ and ‘must-haves’ came under compromise.

The world witnessed the wearing, failings, and halting of its systems – The business world. The economy. The technologies. Healthcare. Sports. The educational and financial systems. Airlines and flights. Gatherings of all kinds. Man made structures and contraptions are crumbling.

What do these tell us? What can we learn from them? Nothing in this life is a do-or-die affair. Nothing is worth stressing or exerting oneself for. Nothing matters. All other ground is sinking sand. Nothing can be truer than Jesus’ word, that ‘only one thing is needful.’ Our walk with the Holy Spirit, and our faith in Him, is the only needful and essential unshakable, worth nurturing.

Luke 10:42 | “But only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

A time like this is indeed a time of thorough house cleaning, and getting rid of all the junk in and around us that don’t add value, so that only the unshakable essentials of our lives can remain. God’s will for us blissfuls is not to go back to the excesses and non-essentials that we paused on, but like Paul said, to live up to the life of simplicity and authenticity we attained this season. God in His infinite wisdom is shaking up things so that only things that are aligned with His plans and purposes will be left; and also so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out to Him and find Him.

You are God’s offspring. You are a product of His incorruptible word. His word is your victory. You cannot be shaken. But like Martha and Peter, when you remove your eyes from Jesus, and focus on the circumstances around, they start to dominate, overwhelm, and defeat you. Receive the grace to consistently focus on the Holy Spirit, and all His words to you this season, and you will not be shaken nor swallowed by the storms of life.

Psalm 16:8 | “I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”
