In phaenomena by the Cilician poet Aratus (315 – 240 BC) as well as in Hymns to Zeus by another Greek poet, Cleanthes (331 – 233 BC) we encounter the following line:
“We are his offspring..”
Centuries later, the Apostle Paul employed this line to reveal the vital relationship between all humanity and God.
“Therefore, since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone – an image made by man’s design and skill”
Acts 17:29
What a powerful argument!
But think of the deeper implications: You are an offspring of divinity, meaning an expression of divinity. You are from God; you came out of Him. You are a progeny of God. Your origin is of God. You emanate from Him.
Before we go on, I would like to ask you a question that is usually taken for granted most of the time. Where are you from? Muse over it for a while before you answer. Usually, when people are asked this, they normally think in terms of their biological origin. They often times mention the name of their village or county.
Now listen to this: If you sincerely believe that you are from your village, then whatever limits the people from that region will hamper you. It explains why a lot of folks can’t seem to rise above certain heights achieved by people from their community. If you believe you are from your biological father, then that also explains why you can’t do some things. You know why? You ultimately return to where you came from. Secondly, you can never excel where you came from. Such unrenewed thinking can be very hazardous and impedes your speed in realizing your destiny.
So, you are not from the dust. You are not from that remote village.
Can you now attempt to say where you are from based on God’s word? I encourage you to boldly agree with God’s word for your life, and to answer with every certainty and assurance, that you are an offspring of God. Yes, you are from God!
