woman discover yourself 1
When you, as a woman, discover yourself and experience the courage and empowerment that comes from beholding your original design and destiny, personal success and significant achievements become inevitable.

I must warn you, this is a very radical post!
It will probably challenge long held and cherished beliefs and concepts. I doubt that you will even agree with the majority of thoughts and opinions expressed here. That is ok. I only ask that you read this with an open mind. I didn’t write this to persuade you to my line of reasoning, I simply wrote this to empower all to whom it may concern. Feel free to leave your comments.

To say that a lot of women feel incomplete outside the context of being married as a wife to a man, would be an understatement. The sad reality, and one I consider pathetic and extremely unbearable, is that the greater majority of women on this planet, particularly in places like Africa, actually feel worthless outside marriage. I’ve heard women say things like, “I don’t care to whom I get married or how bad the marriage is, so long as I’m married.”
That’s the height of low self-esteem. To put up with any crap and swallow all kinds of trash all in the name of marriage is a gross display of self-abuse!

Who is stopping her?

This planet seems to have been dominated by the male specie for an unnecessarily long period of time. Of course, every now and then you’ll see the women rise up here and there; but that’s been a rather scanty affair so far.
I’ve always wondered at this situation since, as my experience shows, the woman is probably the wiser, smarter, and even stronger of the two genders. At least, we all would admit that she’s the more refined of the two species.
So what’s the problem with her? What’s stopping her from realizing her place of leadership and dominance? Or, rather, who?

Well, who else but the man!
Is he scared of the woman?
Is he insecure.
If the truth be told, for centuries he’s played the tyrant – using religion, culture, and tradition as his tools – and the woman has borne the brunt of that tyranny; this scenario is almost over, anyway, or so I hope.

To whom it may concern

Unfortunately, a lot of women simply don’t care!
To address myself to such people would amount to casting my pearls before swines – a wastefulness I’m not willing to engage in.

Fortunately, there are millions of women in whose heart is a knowing that there’s more to womanhood than sex, marriage, and child bearing; that there’s more to womanhood than being a mere sex toy and playing second fiddle to the male gender. Your ranks and files are swelling and your voices rising by the day. A lot of you have already discarded the yokes and shackles of tradition, culture, and religion to embrace your true identity and the originality of your design and destiny. Others have come to the valley of decision and are at the verge of crossing the rubicorn of self-discovery, never to turn back again.

You are the women I have in mind as I write this post. To you, I say clearly and emphatically, discover yourself!!!

When you, as a woman, discover yourself and experience the courage and empowerment that comes from beholding your original design and destiny, personal success and significant achievements become inevitable.

Discover yourself! A challenge to all women

To all of you women in whose heart is the desire and passion for a life of true fulfillment, self actualization, and eternal significance and relevance, I throw down the gauntlet to discover yourself! The hour has come for you to discover the originality of your design, your destiny, and your dominion.

This post is my challenge to all women to discard the mental shackles of oppressive and abusive cultural and religious traditions, to understand your rights and substance in God so that you can live more meaningful and relevant lives. My prayer is that you’ll become more enlightened about life’s options and choices and use your freedom to make decisions based on God’s purpose for your lives.

Please, understand that by failing to discover yourself and courageously embrace your divine design, and destiny, you are actually the one who is abusing yourself!

The extent of emancipation I’m hoping to realize in you is not possible without a soul or core-personality deep spiritual enlightenment that shatters all foundations of ignorance and darkness within the essential fabrics of your entire being.

At the Garden of Eden

This is why I must take you back in time to the very first moments of your being – at the Garden of Eden. It is there that you are able to behold your original design and destiny, before it became marred by oppressive religious myths and dogmas.

When you, as a woman, discover yourself and experience the courage and empowerment that comes from beholding your original design and destiny, personal success and significant achievements become inevitable.

(As all my readers know by now, I’m a staunch advocate of keeping an open mind and developing a multidimensional perspective an all subjects. Nevertheless, as a Christian Pastor, my convictions and beliefs derive chiefly from the mainstream canonical Christian Bible. So this Bible will be my primary frame of reference in throwing down this gauntlet of self-discovery for all women. However, the analysis and interpretations are so broad-based as to accommodate the aspirations of those outside the Christian point of view.)

So what happened at the Garden of Eden? What was the woman’s original design and role? Who actually had the leadership role back then?

=================================================================

5 Reasons I Believe the Woman originally had the top leadership role at the Garden of Eden

Who was in charge in the Garden of Eden – the man or the woman?

I’ve pondered over this question for untold number of hours. I have searched through the bible and had several group discussions on this particular subject. After so many years during which I’ve gathered my findings, I’ve finally decided to go public with my understanding, which is this:

In the beginning, the husband was not ruling over the wife. It was rather the woman that had the leadership role in the Garden of Eden.

If you are entrenched in the traditional belief that Adam had the leadership role, this is probably where you move away from this blog.

If you choose to continue reading, you are welcome as I share with you 5 reasons I believe the woman was in charge at the Garden of Eden.

Let me share these 5 reasons with you, using the canonical bible as subscribed to today by the mainstream Christian denominations.

#1 The woman’s curse signaled a dethronement, implying that she originally had the top leadership role in the Garden.

“Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” ~ Genesis 3:16

According to the Bible, this was a part of the curse that was placed on the woman as a result of her actions in the garden of Eden.
It was intended to be a punishment…right?
If this was meant to be a punishment, it follows that it wasn’t the original configuration of the relationship between the man and the woman…right?
In other words, in the beginning, the husband was not ruling over the wife!
That leaves us with two other possibilities:

  • Either they were equal, or
  • The woman was ruling over the man!

So which one accurately describes the leadership hierarchy in the Garden of Eden before the fall of the human race?

This curse was directed at the woman, telling her that her husband would rule over her. Now, If they were equal, with Adam being the leader by default, then it wouldn’t be much of a curse for the woman – a curse is supposed to be a painful reversal. So she really would have lost nothing!

This leaves us with just one option – She was actually in charge!

The woman’s curse signaled a dethronement, implying that she originally occupied the leadership role in the Garden.

So, to every woman I ask, would you rather have a curse-resultant status, or your original status ?

Remember my point in taking you back to the beginning: when you, as a woman, discover yourself and experience the courage and empowerment that comes from beholding your original design and destiny, personal success and significant achievements become inevitable.

#2 Originally, it was the man that left all to follow the woman, suggesting that she originally had the superior position in the Garden

“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” ~ Genesis 2:24

In the beginning, who had to leave?
I know it’s difficult to imagine the original scenario after centuries and millennia of male dominance! Yet, it was the man who originally had to leave his family for marriage.
In most cultures today, it’s the woman that leaves, changes her surname, and so on.
In the beginning, however, it was the other way round!

But the interesting thing is the significance of this from the leadership perspective.
Who leaves to follow the other? Is it the subordinate, or the superior that leaves to follow the other?

The fact that it was the man who had to leave his base for the woman, suggests to me that she originally had the superior position in the Garden.

Again, I ask every woman, would you rather have a curse-resultant status, or your original status ?

This understanding is relevant because when you, as a woman, discover yourself and experience the courage and empowerment that comes from beholding your original design and destiny, personal success and significant achievements become inevitable.

#3 The woman was the latter house, suggesting that she was an improvement on the man – a superior design.

“The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former…” ~ Haggai 2:9

Of course, this verse prophetically refers to the temple of God in it’s relationship with the Messiahs first advent. However, it also exposes a divine pattern – the latter house is always greater than the former.
The path of the just is like the shining light that shines brighter and brighter till a perfect day, which reveals that in God’s pattern, the best wine is reserved for the last!

If Adam was the ‘former house’ and Eve, the ‘latter house’, who was the improvement over the other? Who had the greater glory and honor?

The woman was the latter house, suggesting to me that she was an improvement on the man – a superior design!

When you, as a woman, discover yourself and experience the courage and empowerment that comes from beholding your original design and destiny, personal success and significant achievements become inevitable.

Would you rather have a curse-resultant status, or your original status ?

#4 The woman was GIVEN to the man, suggesting that she originally had oversight over the man.

Let’s examine the woman’s initial job description:

“I will make a HELPER suitable for him..” ~ Genesis 2:18

It’s interesting that this is the same as the job description of the Holy Spirit, with respect to the Church!

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another HELPER to be with you forever.” ~ John 14:16

Helper = a resource person, not an assistant in the sense of a deputy; unless you think we should refer to the Holy Spirit of God as deputy to the Church, after all, Jesus referred to him as our HELPER!

What are the duties of a resource person, or consultant? Here’s a short list:

  • To advise,
  • To counsel,
  • To motivate,
  • To encourage,
  • To lead.

Yes, to lead!
I suspect you are getting my point already.

Now read how Adam referred to the woman as he ‘passed the buck to her’ for their disobedience:

“And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me” ~ Genesis 3:12

That was Adams comment as he ‘passed the buck’ to his wife for their disobedience.
Or did he? Did he really pass the buck to the woman?
Or was he suggesting something deeper?

Could it be that, perhaps, what Adam really meant was “the person you gave me (to advise and direct me)”?

Let’s pause and reflect on some of the ways God refers to individuals given as gifts to others to lead them:

“I will GIVE you pastors after my own heart…” ~ Jeremiah 3:15

“…that he GAVE His only begotten Son …” ~ John 3:16

“I’ll ask the Father and He’ll GIVE you the Holy Spirit …” ~ John 14:16

“He GAVE some to be Apostles ,…” ~ Ephesians 4:11

Now that’s quite interesting. In each of our references above:

  • God gave a person – Pastors, His Son, His Holy Spirit, Church Leaders.
  • The resultant relational structure is that the person given as a gift has oversight over the one who receives the gift!

In each of the references made above, every person given by the Father always has oversight over the person that receives the gift.

Then, according to the following verse:

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is GIVEN…” ~ Isaiah 9:6

Children are born. Sons are GIVEN. right?
And son’s rule.

Now reflect again over Adams defense, “The woman You [Father] GAVE…”

Do you get it now?

Could it be that the woman was given to the man in the same sense that the Holy Spirit is given to the Church, and in the same sense that pastors and apostles are given – in other words, to have oversight (leadership) over the man?
I believe that that was the case before the fall and the curse!

So, again, I ask every woman, would you rather have a curse-resultant status, or your original status ?

Don’t miss my point in all of these comparisons and analogies: when you, as a woman, discover yourself and experience the courage and empowerment that comes from beholding your original design and destiny, personal success and significant achievements become inevitable.

#5 The main brunt of the punishment fell on the woman, suggesting that she had the greater responsibility – implying that she originally had the top leadership role.

After the first couple ate the forbidden fruit, God confronted Adam. Adam directed God to Eve, as the bearer of the blame:

“The woman you put here with me – she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” ~ Genesis 3:12

The moment Adam gave his excuse, God left him and started cursing the serpent and the woman: Adam got away with practically no curse!

This violates the principle of responsibility – if Adam was actually in charge.
If the man originally had the top leadership role, then he should have been punished FIRST AND ALONE. But he didn’t get any curse at all!

“Cursed is the ground because of you…” ~ Genesis 3:17

Seems to me like it was the ground that got the man’s curse!
Adams curse was merely a consequential experience resulting from the cursing of another, ‘the ground’!
If Adam actually had the top leadership role, why wasn’t he proportionately punished?

But it makes perfect sense if you understand the next few lines.

God fully understood Adams argument.
Imagine a Christian giving the excuse that the Pastor deceived him/her.
Imagine the Church pleading that the Holy Spirit deceived her.
What would God do in such cases? Who would bear the main brunt of the divine wrath – the Christian, or the Pastor, the Holy Spirit, or the Church?

The main brunt of the punishment fell on the woman, suggesting that she had the greater responsibility – implying that she originally had the top leadership role before the fall and the curse.

Again, I ask every woman, would you rather have a curse-resultant status, or your original status ?

When you, as a woman, discover yourself and experience the courage and empowerment that comes from beholding your original design and destiny, personal success and significant achievements become inevitable.

Woman discover yourself!

You see, part of the problem women have faced are the insecurities of the male gender who has strived for centuries, using religion and culture as his tool, to suppress and oppress the woman. But such days are truly numbered!

So the woman must understand who she was in the beginning, and that a lot of the things she unquestioningly accepts as ‘culture’ and ‘tradition’ are not part of her original design and destiny.
It’s unfortunate that religious pulpits have been populated by unrenewed members of the male gender who have continued the legacy of oppression ignorantly.

When you, as a woman, discover yourself and experience the courage and empowerment that comes from beholding your original design and destiny, personal success and significant achievements become inevitable.
You will see these results in your marriage, you will no longer be desperate to please a man.
You’ll see it in a quiet and calm resistance to male manipulations.
You’ll begin to walk with God and influence generations as Jesus did.
You will experience a new sense of purpose and mission that will make you pursue your life’s mission whether that involves marriage or not.

I wrote this introduction – that’s what this post is – to place an important option of self awareness on your table, which is that your current religious, cultural, and traditional status, is not your original status!

Then I asked, would you rather have a curse-resultant status, or your original status?
If your answer is that you’d rather have your original status, I anticipate that you will have questions like, how can I achieve that?

Watch out for my follow up posts to this! Don’t miss a thing!

The article is interesting. I red just small parts of the bible. I always wondered that people who are going to church regulary and reading the bible regulary often avoid to live the meaning of it. An interesting fact was as I worked for a church it was discussed that a story was cut of long ago. This story is about the first habitants of the garden Eden: Lilith and Adam. And because Adam complains he can´t deal with Lilith God made him sleeping, took a rip from Adam and said He should be able to deal with part of himself. Lilith left Eden. Adam lived with Eva and every night he left Eden to be with Lilith. Lilith is the woman who choosed her own life. She has a lot of courage and great abilities. Can you imagine the discussion about it and wether it should be published from church or not? What does it say if a church cut something like that of, hide it for hundreds of years and try to hide it again after a Pastor discovered it? As long as the majority prefer that man rules the world the mess got more and more. Why?… Read more »

Yes. I do agree that it’s not enough for women to know who they are, it’s even more important that they be willing to stand up and show their strength. They’ve got to assume more responsibility for recovering their rightful position.

First let me say that I commend and thank you for the work that you are doing here. Perhaps it is true that women once played the dominant role, but true or not the fact remains that If we are striving for peace then we must also strive for equality and the ability to walk side by side. If your strength is stronger for a particular task, then take the lead, regardless of gender. That, of course, means that women do need to know who they are and be willing to stand up and show their strength.

The day is long past due when we can attribute the subjugation of women to God’s will. Sexism, racism, and discrimination of any kind have no place in the world today, and none of those things are God’s will.

I was fortunate enough to be born into a society in which women have high status and take it for granted they have as much right to get educations, have careers and control their own destinies as men do, but I realize this is not the case for women in many countries.

Education is key to enlightening women in Africa and all other countries in which we are considered to be second-class citizens, for once someone becomes educated you can no longer hold that person in subjugation to false ideas.

WD, thank you for this bold post, and thank you for being a light unto the world. :o)

So many many long and interesting comments. I knew everything I wrote in this post instinctively by the time I was just 17 years old! I thought I was crazy then. I’ve waited and studied and asked questions for 17 years now.
Now I’m ready with all I’ve discovered on the matter. There are 3 more parts remaining. This is just the introduction. It will cover issues raised in this comments, such as leadership, marriage, submission.
It’s already in the process of being published as a book here in Nigeria, ‘Woman Discover Yourself’ Its also going to be a Conference series ‘Woman Discover Yourself’
