“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for Him, and when they found Him, they exclaimed: ‘Everyone is looking for you!’ Jesus replied, ‘Let us go somewhere else to the nearby villages so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.’”
~ Mark 1: 35 – 38
It is very important that you start your day alone with your heavenly father. The first thing you should do every day is to talk to your heavenly father before you talk to any other person in the day. God should be the first person that you talk to early in the morning; not your parents; not your children; not your siblings; nobody else!
I cultivated this discipline as a child, and now, I have taught my children the same thing. During my childhood days, as soon as my siblings and I woke up in the morning, the first thing we did was to go and pray at our family altar. And as soon as we finished, we greeted our parents. That was priority for us. We greeted God first, and then we greeted our parents.
“‘Honour your father and mother’– which is the first commandment with a promise–that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.’”
~Ephesians 6:3
You can’t just afford to have your life running anyhow. Please understand this: If you don’t honour God, and you don’t honour your parents, you are headless. God gives us authority to create order in our lives. This is why in every sphere of life– for example, family, business, even in creation – there’s a head.
So, who do you honour?
Memory Verse:
Ephesians 6:3
“‘Honour your father and mother’– which is the first commandment with a promise–that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.’”Prayer:
Heavenly Father, You are a God of order. Please help me to honour you, my parents and all the authority figures that You’ve placed over my life, in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
