What’s The Point?

Philippians 3:8 NIV | “What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.”

Knowing God and walking intimately with Him demands a level of sacrifice and self-denial. We went through (and still are) a season of ‘grinding’ with the Lord that involved fastings, prayers, vigils, and giving. At some point, we reviewed what the point in all that was.

For me, I realised that it was essentially in a bid to obey the instructions of the Holy Spirit, whom I love, and to know and love Her even more deeply. Paul considers his life worth nothing for the sake of God’s will. He considers everything – his privileges and advantages – as garbage when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ.

Untill we put everything that matters to us on the line, and consider them as worthless, we can’t know Christ. The knowledge of the Holy One, and conformity to Her will, is the point of our lives. She is our purpose. Anything that doesn’t lead to that is pointless. Lord, purify us of impure motives, and deliver us from pointless living.
