What Is Sin?

Recently the Holy Spirit has given me insight into the definition of sin. I think that mostly people think of sin as a particular act; like doing drugs, sex before marriage, unforgiveness, judging others, etc.

Holy Spirit reminded me that sin means to miss the mark. Sin is a term they use in archery when you miss the target. The mark is the goal or the target. Any time you miss the goal or the target you sin.

So my question is: Where is the target? What is the goal? I would like to present for your consideration this scripture.

Genesis 1:26| “Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”

I believe this is the target or goal. Gods identity of us. Who He has made us to be.

Now look at this:

Genesis 3:5| “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,knowing good and evil.”

See this part I marked bold, “you will be like Him”, the serpent suggested that she wasn’t like Him. And she fell for it. She was already made in His image. (See Gen. 1:26)

Let’s look at this in another place.

Matthew 3:17| “And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

And…

Matthew 4:3| “The tempter came to him and said, “IF you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

The Father had just confirmed and acknowledged Jesus as His Son then here comes Satan, same as he did with Eve, putting doubt in His identity. He told him “IF you are the Son of God”. IF is a word to suggest as though He may not be.

So you see I believe that sin is not knowing who you are. Because if you know who you are it will change what you do.

I believe that Jesus came to redeem us from sin or from our lost identity. On the cross He asked why did God forsake Him. I believe that in the moment He became sin, He felt the disconnect from His Father. It was unbearable. But He did this so that we may come back to our identity.

2 Corinthians 5:12| God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

John 1:12| “But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.

I believe that if you walk the identity of who God made you to be then you will not miss the mark. And this is impossible with man but with God it is possible. He has given us help. The Holy Spirit. Jesus said He would guide us into all the truth. The truth of who you are; you are a child of God. Also the Holy Spirit is the only One Who knows where the mark is.

Romans 8:14| For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.”

Blissful you are a child of the Most High. The Blood of Jesus has bought your identity back. You are not a sinner you are the righteousness of God.

PrayerHoly Spirit make known to me the truth of who I am and lead me in every area of my life so that I may not miss the mark and walk in the fullness of who I am in Him, in Jesus Name. Amen.
