What Fellowship Can Light Have With Darkness?

“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God…”
~2 Corinthians 6:14-16

What fellowship can light have with darkness?

It’s not possible for light to have fellowship with darkness. The only way light can have fellowship with darkness is that it is no longer the light. Hear this: If you feel comfortable in the midst of unbelievers, something is wrong somewhere. If you can sit with an unbeliever, chat, laugh, and effortlessly have a conversation, something is missing somewhere. If you can comfortably spend hours in conversation with an unbeliever, you need serious help.

What harmony is there between Christ and Belial?

Whenever you are with an unbeliever, there can only be conflict. Because your values, priorities, preferences, ideologies, and ways are not the same. As a matter of fact, he tolerates you, and you tolerate him. Where a real unbeliever and a real believer come together, it’s a relationship of tolerance. Maybe you have to do business together, or something unavoidable brought you together. Or maybe you even want to preach to him.

Nonetheless, if you can hang out with an unbeliever, and there’s harmony between the two of you, then I encourage you today to go back to God in prayer, and check yourself.

Memory Verse:
2 Corinthians 6:14-16
“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God…”

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I choose today to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. Father, strengthen my resolve every day, in Jesus’ mighty name.
Amen.
