What Are You Looking At?

When I was a child I played the great American sport of baseball. I remember going to practice every evening and learning how to throw, catch and hit the ball. One of the things the coach would always say is, “keep your eye on the ball”.

The way God made the human body is that whatever you are looking at, whatever you are focused on, it will be your target or aim. Everything else will follow suit.

And as I learned to keep my eye on the ball it was like magic; bat in hand, my arms and body would start to move at the right time until the bat made a connection with the ball.

The same is true with the things of the Spirit.

Hebrews 12:2| Fixing your eyes on Jesus the author and finisher of your faith.”

When you look at Jesus, and really keep your gaze on Him, everything follows suit and bows in submission to Him. All your fears and anxieties take a knee in the presence of your God. So the moment you really see Jesus and your heart is bowed to Him in reverence and love, every anxiety and fear also takes a knee.

Matthew 6:33| “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

What you focus on you essentially empower over your life. Focus is a form of worship. When your heart is focused on God everything will follow that focus. Things you need or even desire will come to you.

God knows the power of focus. So if you focus on your problems you are in essence worshipping them. This will bring you pain and misery. As the loving Father God is, He doesn’t want that for you.

Psalms 16:8| “I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”

Today, fix your eyes on Him and kneel before Him. Let Him fill your heart with His love and let all fear disappear in His presence.

Prayer: Holy Spirit help me to keep my eye on Jesus, to set Him ever before me. Deliver me from the distractions of the day. Help me to love and worship Him wholeheartedly with my life. In Jesus Name, amen.
