To What Church Do You Belong?

“Where should I give my tithe?” is a common question.

Whereas the question, “How do I calculate my tithe?” usually comes from stingy souls, the question “Where should I give my tithe?” usually comes from rebellious souls. I observed that the people who ask this question are usually those who find it hard to submit to spiritual authority. They are the folks who find it hard to belong to any church.

There are Christians who don’t belong to any church. They find it hard to belong to any church. Of course, they hide under all kinds of excuses. You hear statements like “All these churches are fake. These men of God are phonies; they’re all out there deceiving people.”

Well, give me a break! If a church is a false church, get out of it. Then go and find a good one. Don’t hide under all those excuses.  I agree that there are a bunch of fools masquerading as men of God, but that’s not an excuse to live and walk in rebellion.

“God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.”
~Psalms 68:6

Another word for ‘set’ is ‘fix’. God fixes the lonely in families. But the rebellious live in a sun scorched land. A lot of folks float from church to church. They make statements like, “I worship where the Spirit leads me to go.” When you ask them, “Where are you worshiping today?” They tell you, “It depends on where the Lord leads me.” Or “When I wake up in the morning I’ll know.”  That person is simply a rebellious person.

You always have to ask yourself, “In which spiritual family am I set? In which household of faith do I belong to?” God’s word says that these people – and I’ve seen a lot of them – live in a sun scorched land. They keep drifting from place to place in a confused manner. Their lives are usually chaotic, and have no order or direction. For some of them it’s all in the name of ‘freedom’.  They think they’re wise but they’re fools. They think they’re free but they’re slaves.

God sets the lonely in families; don’t join the rebellious.

So when folks ask me the question, “Where should I pay my tithe?” I ask them a more important question, “Which church do you belong to?” That’s a more fundamental question when it comes to the issue of giving tithe to God. For your tithing to be effective, the answer to that question must be clear in your mind.

Memory Verse:
Psalms 68:6
God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.”

Prayer:
Father, help me to abide in the church family where You have set me. May I not drift about like the rebellious, in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
