In yesterday’s post, Righteousness Is The Nature Of God, I shared an important defining feature of the righteousness that comes from God – it is His nature.

Here’s another important characteristic feature:

“For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.”
Romans 5: 17

The righteousness of God that is given to those who are born-again is revealed to us in the bible as a free gift given by God. It is given to you the moment you receive Christ into your life. The moment you receive Jesus into your life as your Lord and Savior, the moment you submit to Him as Lord over your life, the moment you are baptized into His name in water by immersion, you receive His life, and the gift of righteousness is given to you.

Therefore, the righteousness of God is a gift; it’s not something you paid for. You actually can’t pay for it, or get it by striving to do good works. This is part of what makes it very different from the human moralistic righteousness, which is like a filthy rag before God.

So if you are a child of God, just know that, thanks to Jesus, you have been given the free gift of God’s righteousness.

Lord Jesus, I thank you for Your atoning work on the Cross of Calvary. Thank You for making the precious gift of God’s righteousness available to me, in Jesus’ name.
