The Plague Of Deceitful Hearts

One of the predominant problems that I see in the church today is that many Christians don’t serve God with a genuine heart. They don’t have a wholehearted devotion to God. David – a man after God’s heart – prayed to God for an undivided heart.

“Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.”
~Psalm 86:11

He desired a single-minded devotion to God.

Christian folks today come to God with divided hearts and divided affections; their hearts are not wholly devoted to God. Then they turn around and complain that God is not faithful to them.

You see, God is not partial. God is not a respecter of persons.

“Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, ‘Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons…’”
~Acts 10:34(KJV)

Instead, He is a respecter of the principles of His word. If you diligently serve God, and follow Him with your whole heart without guile and deceit, God will be faithful to you.

Unfortunately, the plague of deceitful hearts is prevalent among Christians today . There is a lot of deceit in the hearts of Christian folks who are supposed to be serving God with a single minded devotion . There’s a lot of crookedness and insincerity in their hearts which they mask with religion.

Jesus said:

“He replied, Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.’”
~Mark 7: 6-7

Also the bible says:

“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?”
~Jeremiah 17:9

A lot of folks deceive themselves. Then at the end of their lives, at the end of the day, they claim that God hasn’t been faithful to them. God is faithful! And if you’re faithful to God, He says that he is a rewarder of those that diligently seek him.

“…He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.”
~Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)

Diligence in this context is another word for faithfulness. God is a rewarder of those that faithfully serve Him.

So if you’re complaining that God is not faithful, you need to check yourself. If you look into your life right now and you think that God is not faithful, it’s a sign that you’re crooked. Understand that it’s a sign of crookedness, because God’s word says that to the crooked God shows Himself shrewd.

“To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless, to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd.
~Psalm 18:25

In other words, God shows Himself mean to the unfaithful. If you’ve been trying to play tricks on God, you will see the mean side of God. If you can stand in the judgment court of heaven after evaluating your life, and say to God, “You’ve been unfaithful to me,” then, God is going to show you how crooked your life has been. He will show you how you have been insincere, twisted, and full of tricks in your relationship with Him.

Aim for a wholehearted devotion in your walk with God. Ask Him to give you an undivided heart so that you will be truly faithful to Him.

Memory Verse:
Mark 7: 6-7
“He replied, Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.’”

Prayer:
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting, in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
