2. The Jungle Called Relationships

“I am sending you out like sheep among the wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.”
~ Matthew 10:16

The world is a very tough place. In the world, you’re going to meet all manner of folks. In the course of your interactions with people, you’re going to meet wolves. In the course of your business dealings, ministry and other relationships, you’re going to meet sharks, tigers, and cobras. And Jesus says you should be as shrewd as snakes but as innocent as doves when you get out into the world. You don’t function in the world as a lamb. You can function as a sheep among fellow Christians, but not in the world – it is a different ball game there.

Jesus says you should be shrewd in your dealings with the people of the world. This means you should walk with wisdom, discernment and courage in your relationships. It means you should apply skill in dealing with people. You need to make accurate judgments if you want to successfully navigate the jungle of life and relationships. Otherwise, you won’t succeed in your pursuits. You require astuteness in your interactions with other people if you want to accomplish your divine assignment on earth.

Pay attention to the words of Jesus, and do not be careless with your relationships. Don’t be naïve or foolish when you go out in the world. Instead follow His instructions and be wise in your dealings with outsiders. Apply shrewdness as you navigate through the jungle called relationships.

Memory Verse:
