The Illusion Of Freedom

Romans 6:18 AMP | “And having been set free from sin, you have become the slaves of righteousness [of conformity to God’s will and purpose].”

The Lord inspired this post through my daughter, during one of our morning devotions. We had read from Luke 2:21-24, where Jesus was named and presented in the temple. She shared that despite the fact that Jesus was the son of God, his parents still followed the exact instructions that had been given concerning Him, according to the law, regarding His naming and presentation.

We were reminded that freedom is an illusion. Nature abhors vacuum. We were set free from the enemy to become bound to God. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of freedom, yet not the spirit of lawlessness. Walking with the Her is not a licence to self-indulgence and reckless living. Walking with Her doesn’t exempt us from the law. It only transitions us from one law to another; from the law of sin and death (religion), to the law of the Spirit (Her will).

Lord, make us indeed slaves of righteousness. Conform us to Your will and purpose.
