The Doings Of The Holy Spirit (2): You Can’t Make These Things Up

2Samuel 6:11 | “The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the LORD blessed him and his entire household.

Two years ago, when we started our very first home church meeting, the Holy Spirit told me that the ark of the Lord had come to rest in the home of the Blissful who welcomed us. As I tried to share this scripture with her, she cut me short, and told me that the Holy Spirit gave her the exact same scripture. Fast forward to two years later, the Lord told us it was time to move our meeting to where He chose for us. And our very first meeting at this new place happened to be a communion service.

At the start of the service, the Holy Spirit led us to celebrate the move and also to study 2 Samuel 6. The chapter tells the story of the ark of the Lord’s temporary stay at the house of Obed-Edom and King David’s second – and successful – attempt to move the ark to the city of David. The Holy Spirit showed us astounding similarities between what David and the Israelites did centuries ago and what we had just done. Firstly, David made sacrifices for every 6 steps the priests carrying the ark took.(2 Samuel 6:13) Each of us present in our communion service that day had made sacrifices to provide resources for our move to the new place. Secondly – and mind-blowingly – David gave a loaf of bread to all the Israelites present with him at that ceremony.(2 Samuel 6:19) And here we were, sharing the bread of life as we held our communion service.

Like I told a fellow pastor, you can’t make these things up! It’s all the doings of the Holy Spirit. As we made sacrifices for the move and Rev Wildfire had told all the mission centres to have communion, we didn’t know that the Lord was repeating a pattern that took place centuries ago. So I say again, I choose the doings of the Holy Spirit over any man-made schemes and plans. Bliss be with you.
