John 12:27 NIV | “Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!”
God wants us to lift up holy hands in prayer. (1 Timothy 2:8) Like Jesus, He wants us to surrender to His will, even in prayer, and not let our communion with Him be tainted by the selfish desires of our flesh. He wants us to slow down in prayer, be more eager to find out what He wants, and align with His will, than bombard Him with our endless requests.
Jesus demonstrated this. The agony and torturous vision of the cross almost made Him give up on God’s will. But He quickly realised that it wasn’t about Him but about what the Father wanted. His will. This is part of why we pray in the spirit. When we pray in the spirit, we pray in accordance to God’s will. It’s like giving him the alphabets to arrange and form the words He wants.
Lord, help us to trust You and willfully surrender to Your will.
