Surrender (2): Have Your Way, Lord.

The phrase “Have your way, Lord” has been on repeat in my spirit lately. It’s actually a call for the Lord’s people to surrender totally to Him in all things and at all times. It is not enough to sing “I surrender” to the Lord. You don’t sing your way to the will of God; rather, certain actions and decisions will have to be taken to express your surrender to the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 19:21 | “Jesus answered, ‘If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor …’ When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.”

The rich young ruler had an excellent report card, but he needed to do more. He was required to take certain steps to give away his wealth for the Lord’s sake. But he chose to walk away. I have thought deeply about his response over the years. And I came to this conclusion: Instead of walking away, I would rather ask the Holy Spirit to help me surrender my wealth. It’s been working for me.

As the Lord points out actions you need to take to do His will, ask Him to possess you completely. Because when you are completely possessed by the Holy Spirit, doing His will becomes a byproduct. Bliss be with you.
