1 Kings 18:46 NIV | “The power of the LORD came upon Elijah and, tucking his cloak into his belt, he ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel.”
I once had a very rugged laptop that worked only when it’s connected to electricity. People around made fun of it, and referred to it as the ‘plug and use’ laptop. The battery was bad. Actually dead. But that did not make any difference, provided it was connected to power source, and there was no need to take it around.
The Holy Spirit taught me a profound lesson from that laptop. The inspiration came afresh again this season, as I pondered His new slogan for us Blissfuls – ‘Powered By The Holy Spirit.’ He says a new chapter has opened up for us, where the help of the Holy Spirit will make up every difference in our lives.
Prophet Elijah, though tired from the Baal contest, and from fasting and praying on mount Carmel, ran all the way to Jezreel on foot, ahead of the well-fed King Ahab, who had horses and chariots, and had left many hours before Elijah came on the scene. Think about that. The power of the Lord came upon Elijah. He was powered by the Holy Spirit.
In our prevalent competitive world of survival of the fittest, competence, brain power, economic power, connections, talents, and the like, are usually the competitive advantages. But as for us people of God, the Holy Spirit is our competitive edge. Our competence comes from Him.
1 Corinthians 3:5 NIV | “Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.”
A radio or cell phone will be useless in establishing a connection, if one fails to either tune into the right frequency, or dial the correct number. It is one thing to have the Holy Spirit inside, it is another thing to be connected to Him. We are competent to handle the complexities of life, only as we continually connect to the power source – the Holy Spirit – through fellowship and total surrender to His will.
So, it doesn’t matter who may have gone ahead of you, or the disadvantages that you perceive in your life. When you truly connect with the Holy Spirit within you, and he starts to power your life, He makes a mockery of everything and everyone that has been against you. You become unstoppable – powered by the force of divinity!
Our prayer today is simple. That the Holy Spirit will help us learn to tune inwards, and make connection with Him. Our advantage is in the power, wisdom, and understanding that He gives.
John 16:13 NIV | “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.”
