Righteousness Is The Nature Of God

“Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call in the name of the Lord out of a pure heart.”
~2 Timothy 2: 22

God’s word tells you to pursue righteousness. However, it is important to understand the type of righteousness that you are to pursue, as there are other types also revealed in the bible.

As God’s child, you are to pursue the righteousness of God Himself. You are to seek the righteousness that comes from God. This righteousness is the nature of God. It is the character and personality of God; how God behaves, how He acts, how He responds, how He speaks.

“The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion”
~Psalm 116:5

So, you can’t have the righteousness of God, unless you have the nature of God. If you’re an unbeliever, and you’re not born again, but you’re morally upright, you don’t have the righteousness that comes from God. Because you don’t have the nature of God, you can’t have His righteousness.  There’s basically not much difference between you and a good dog, a good goat, a good rabbit, or a well behaved lion.

Righteousness devoid of the nature of God is not the righteousness of God. God is righteousness. When you are born again – that is, when you believe in Jesus Christ, and are baptized in water in His name, filled by His spirit, then you have His nature, and you have His righteousness.

Memory Verse:
~Psalm 116:5
“The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion”

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank You that I am born again. Thank You for giving me Your nature, and so I have the righteousness that comes from You, in Jesus’ mighty name.
Amen.
