Religion, really, produces a lot of zombies. Little wonder someone once referred to as the opium of the masses. In religion, another man’s revelation of God is imposed on you as the only revelation of God. And it succeeds fantastically on folks who don’t have a personal revelation of God. Religion’s hideousness is seen in the manner it enslaves. This is contrary to genuine worship of God which empowers and liberates.
Apostle Paul, in helping the church in Corinth understand this said:
“Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
~ 2Corinthians 3:17
Genuine worship of God frees you!
One of the keys to personal freedom is to have your own personal revelation of God. You must have your own personal encounter with God. Otherwise you stand the risk of being tossed about by every wind of doctrine; you open up yourself to the schemes and manipulations of your fellow men; you fall prey to all these gymnastics that are going on in the church today.
Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.'”
~ Exodus 3:13-14
In the above passage of scripture, God sent Moses on a mission to deliver the Israelites from the clutches of Pharaoh, their Egyptian master. And when Moses demanded to know His name, God said, “Tell them that ‘I am who I am.’”
Moses was inquisitive. Unlike the horde of religious zombies that flow in out of church buildings today, He wasn’t satisfied with the oral religious traditions handed down to him from his ancestors. He couldn’t work with that. He understood that if he was to be effective in his mission, if he was to be victorious in life, he needed a personal revelation of God.
Now, if I may ask, are you one of the religious zombies?
