Hebrews 4:2 NLT | “For this good news—that God has prepared this rest—has been announced to us, just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn’t share the faith of those who listened to God.”

Some versions say, “the word they heard did not profit them”. It was of no value to them, and so, did not help them, because they did not trust it to act on it.

Remember the ten lepers. Just before their healing, Jesus asked them to go and show themselves to the priest, and the bible records that ‘as they went, they were healed’. Before the miracle of the feeding of the 5000, Jesus instructed that the people sit down. Those who heeded his advice and sat, were those that were fed.

What has the Holy Spirit been saying to you lately? What are you doing as a proof that you believe God’s word to you? A sign that you believe is that there’d be a corresponding disposition, adjustment, or even action towards what you heard. Every participatory effort you put in obedience to God’s word is maximising grace. May His grace not be without effect in your life. May you profit from the word!
