Prayerlessness Leads to Desperation

When you pray, the challenges around you don’t necessarily disappear magically. It’s not as though when you come out of your closet after praying, all your problems mysteriously vanish. What usually happens is that you experience deep peace in your place of prayer.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.”
~ Philippians 4:6-7

This means that though the problems might still be there, they no longer cause you to worry.  They no longer scare you – some challenges can really be frightening.

For instance, when you look at the debts staring you in the face, and then you compare that with the absence of any cash in your pocket, you can get scared. And when you are scared, you panic; and when you panic, you begin to do desperate things. Chances are that when you panic, you might start compromising your principles. The moment panic sets in, you might start doing things you possibly never have thought you could do.

The point here is this, you will panic and become desperate in the face of challenges, if you don’t pray. You only break the vicious cycle of panic and desperation by getting on your knees in prayer. But, if in the heat of the deplorable situation you ignore prayer, then you will most likely see yourself grapple with your personal godly principles. Then you cower and throw in the towel. Cowardice gets birthed; compromise, its next of kin, then comes to cash the cheque.

Memory Verse:

Philippians 4:6-7

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.”

Prayer:

Lord, help me to pray at all times and in every situation. Deliver me from panic and desperation, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
