As God’s child, you are probably used to hearing God’s promises and instructions. The Holy Spirit speaks them directly to your heart. Or you read them in the Scriptures. You hear them on Prayer Connect. You read them here on Rule Your Day. You hear them when you attend church; and on and on.
This is all good and wonderful. However, you run a risk : familiarity! If you are not careful, you run the risk of being familiar with God’s promises. This will be of no benefit to you at all. Because God has put His words in your life for a reason.
2 Peter 1:4 NIV | “Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption that is in the world, caused by evil desires.”
There’s no doubt that there’s corruption and decay in the world. You only need to look around you, or read the news and social media. However, God does not want you to have a part in any of that. That’s why He gives you His great and precious promises. He wants you to participate in His divine nature; to live in victory over the circumstances of your life. Like Jesus did while He was on earth.
The key to all these is His promises and instructions. Pay close attention to them. Don’t get familiar with them to the point they no longer move you.
Psalm 91:4 NLT | “He will shield you with His wings. He will shelter you with his feathers. His faithful promises are your armour and protection.“
God gives you His promises and instructions to shield you. His promises of health shield you from sickness. His promises of provision shield you from lack and borrowing. His promises of protection shield you from danger. His instructions bring you bliss, and shield you from trouble.
So, do not take God’s promises for granted. Pay close attention to them. Hold fast to them in your heart. Speak them with your lips. Be the person of whom God writes:
Isaiah 66:2 MSG | “… But there’s something I am looking for: a person simple and plain, reverently responsive to what I say.”
Prayer : Help me Precious Holy Spirit to pay close attention to your words. May I be reverently responsive to what You say. Amen.
