Luke 7:13 NLT | “When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. ‘Don’t cry!’ he said.”
The above scripture describes the reaction of Jesus when He saw a widow whose only son had died. His heart overflowed with compassion for the widow, and he raised her dead son back to life.
As I meditated on this story, the Holy Spirit began to speak to me about the power of compassion. Compassion is a force that brings the intervening power of God into a situation. When you overflow with compassion for people, you attract the solutions of God into their lives.
We live in a world that is quick to blame people for their problems. It’s easy to judge people for actions that led them into their current predicament. Don’t stand in the place of the accuser. Choose compassion. Let the Holy Spirit direct you. He may ask you to intercede for the person in prayer. He may tell you specific acts of kindness to do. Don’t be so consumed by your own issues that you become blind to other people’s pain. Receive help from the Holy Spirit to choose kindness today. Receive His grace to overflow with compassion.
