To build a strong and godly family, you must first discover yourself and your assignment in God. It is very important that you take this first step.
You are sent into this world to epitomize a principle of divinity. You are sent into this world to be a symbol of a certain truth. You are created to be the embodiment of a certain dimension of God. You have to find out what it is. You must know what you are called to represent.
Secondly, when you find that out, you must use that mission as a criterion for recruiting members of your family.
This is what God did with Adam in the Bible. God first gave Adam a mission:
“God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.’”
~Genesis 1:28
God gave Adam an instruction; God gave him a command; that was the will of God for Adam. And then God said in the next chapter of Genesis:
“…It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
~Genesis 2:18
Marriage is a provision for mission. If you don’t know your mission, you’re not qualified to get into marriage. What is your mission? Because you must marry on that basis. Your wife or your husband must be one of whom God says, “let us make as a helper suitable for you.” Your marriage and family are there to serve your God-given mission.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work.”
~Ecclesiastes 4:9
Don’t ever marry someone that has no work. If you are a lady, when a guy comes to you, one of the first questions you should ask him is: What is your work? Unfortunately, there are a lot of guys who have no work and they want to marry somebody, so the person can take care of them. In the light of the above insight on marriage, go the extra mile and ask him what his mission statement is. Even for the guys, find out the lady’s mission statement. In other words, what are they in this world for?
This is advanced premarital counseling and lecture; but it important you consider all these, so that you don’t make a mess of your life.
