1 John 2:15 | MSG “Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father.”
When we gave our lives to Christ back in the day, we often used this phrase: “a worded brother” or “a worded sister.” It meant one full of God’s word such that it laced every conversation. In fact, I recall saying that I’d never marry anyone who wasn’t “worded”. We loved the scriptures and couldn’t get enough of it.
It is worrisome today that many of God’s children have no desire for the word. There’s not much interest. And this is because other stuff have our attention. The scripture says that ‘the one that is full loathes honey’. When you’re full with the world, you’ll loathe the Word. When you derive satisfaction from the pleasures of this life, you can’t appreciate the sweetness and preciousness of God’s word. Love for the world will squeeze out your love for the Word.
Lord, rid us of the flesh. Be our delight. Give us a craving for Your Word.
