2 Peter 1:4 NIV | “Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”

One of the realities of the new creation is that we are now participators of God’s divine nature. We possess His nature and His potentials. That’s the meaning of; ‘I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.’

Here’s this illustration with the moon. The moon is not a light source. It does not make its own light. It simply reflects the light of the sun to the earth. If the sun wasn’t there, we wouldn’t be able to see the moon. Jesus said in John 5:19, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing.” Nothing cuts off the Son as much as trying to do his own thing. Nothing cuts us off from the Holy Spirit as much as living our lives independent of Him.

Just as the moon aligns itself closely to the sun and is able to create the same kind of effect that the sun does, we too, by aligning ourselves to the Holy Spirit in us, we reflect Him; we participate in His nature.
