Is It In Your Style To Do It Again And Again?

“He (Elijah) arranged the wood, cut the bull into pieces and laid it on the wood. Then he said to them, ‘Fill four large jars with water, and pour it on the offering and on the wood.’ ‘Do it again,’ he said, and they did it again. ‘Do it a third time,’ he ordered, and they did it the third time. The water ran down around the altar and even filled the trench.”
~1 Kings 18:33-34

The prophet of God, Elijah, wanted to offer a sacrifice to God. And he told those with him to pour water repeatedly on the altar. He gave this instruction three times consecutively.

Here are some questions for you: Which one of the jars, or pouring of the water filled the trenches? Was it the first one they poured? Was it the second one? Was it the third? Or was it a combination of all of them?

In addition, in your own life, are you willing to “tell the servants to fill four large jars with water, and pour it on the offering and the wood?” And then give them that instruction to do it again and again. Are you willing to do that? Is that your style? Is tenacity your pattern?

Also, assuming that you’re one of the servants, would you be willing to obey the same instruction repeatedly? Would you fill four large jars with water, carry them to the place of the sacrifice, pour them out , return, fill them again, pour them out, return, fill them the third time, and pour them out again? Is that your style? Do you have the habit of doing the same thing again, and again, and again? Is tenacity your regular practice?

Memory Verse:
1 Kings 18:33-34

“He arranged the wood, cut the bull into pieces and laid it on the wood. Then he said to them, ‘Fill four large jars with water, and pour it on the offering and on the wood.’ ‘Do it again,’ he said, and they did it again. ‘Do it a third time,’ he ordered, and they did it the third time. The water ran down around the altar and even filled the trench.”

Prayer
O Lord, please help me to make tenacity a habit, in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
