In Birthing Ishmael, Did Abraham Do Anything Wrong?

I posed this question a few days ago on social media. And I feel it would be good to extend the conversation here as well. I just need your opinion and common sense on this one.

This is a very serious matter for me. Because I see many people ‘waiting on God’, while neglecting to use their own common sense to solve their problems.

Abraham waited for God to give Him a son. When that wasn’t happening, His wife Sarah suggested that he sleep with their slave girl, Hagar. He did so. It worked! And out came Ishmael.

BIBLE STUDY
Genesis 16:3-4 NIV
[3] So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian slave Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. [4] He slept with Hagar, and she conceived…
Genesis 16:15-16 NIV
[15] So Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne. [16] Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.

Standard religious teaching has always condemned Abraham and Sarah. So we continue to perpetuate something that has no basis in scripture. There’s no single place in the Bible where God condemned Abraham for Ishmael. Instead He blessed Ishmael!

BIBLE STUDY | Genesis 17:20 NIV
[20] And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation.

The lesson here is that when we use our God-given faculties to solve our problems within acceptable norms, as long as we’re not breaking any of God’s laws to us, or harming others, God will bless our efforts.

Abraham did what he could to achieve what he needed? Is there anything wrong with that? What do you think?

In any case, quit using God as a mask for laziness! Go out and do something and succeed, in Jesus Name!

God will bless your plans and efforts in Jesus Name!
