Being filled with the Holy Spirit is compared to being drunk with wine.
Ephesians 5:18 NLT
Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,
So, to be filled with the Spirit means to be drunk with the Spirit. To be intoxicated with the Spirit. To become so taken over by the Spirit that you’re no longer in control of yourself.
You see, when you get drunk you lose control of yourself.
The wine now controls you.
You’re now completely under the influence of the wine.
You don’t know what you’re doing again.
And you start doing lots of crazy stuff that you wouldn’t normally do.
That’s what happens when you get drunk with the Holy Spirit.
The difference is that wine ruins your life.
It makes you do things you’ll later regret.
It makes you destroy yourself.
The Holy Spirit, on the other hand, takes you to new levels of glory.
To heights you’ve never been before.
He shows you things you’ve never seen before.
He takes you to places you never dreamed of.
He fills your life with the glory of God.
Now, imagine being drunk in the spirit every day. Wow!
May you always be filled, drunk, intoxicated with, and possessed by the Holy Spirit, every single second of your life. In Jesus Name!
