What Happens When You Look Into A Mirror?

The way God appears to you is a reflection of who you are. Put in another way; the revelation of God you have, is you! It is your essence.

If you want to really know yourself, then take out time to seek God. And when you find him, you find yourself. When you discover Him, you discover yourself. This might sound absurd, so I’m going to make it clearer with an illustration you’ll never ever miss.

To understand this, think of a mirror.

23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.
~ James 1:23-25

The Word – that is, God – is likened here by James to a mirror. What happens when you look into a mirror? What do you see? You see yourself.  In the same manner, whenever you behold God, when you have a revelation of God, you are actually beholding your real self! When you see God, you experience self-discovery.

Now, think about this: If a million individuals look into the same mirror, they’ll see a million different individuals. Each person that looks into the mirror will see himself or herself. Yet, it’s the same mirror; right?

So, when I commune with God and He reveals Himself to me, I see ‘God’. When you do the same, you see ‘God.’ Each of these will be different, not because there are many Gods, but because each of us is a unique variety of the same God and can only see our own unique variety when we look into the mirror.
