Mathew 17:4-5 | Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here…while he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
Good is not always God. That something is good (and probably widely acceptable) does not necessarily mean that God will approve it for you.
Peter had such an overwhelming experience with Jesus on the mountain of transfiguration; such that he wanted to camp there. But while he reminisced and voiced out his thoughts to Jesus, heaven interrupted him. The voice of God cut him short. God wasn’t in on his agenda. I believe God was more like saying to him: “Hey Peter, keep quiet and listen to Jesus. Take your cue from Him. Do only what He says, and don’t run off with your own plans.”
We see a somewhat similar scenario, and with a corresponding response, in the book of Judges.
Judges 9:8-9 | “One day the trees went out to anoint a king for themselves. They said to the olive tree, “(Come) and be our king. But the olive tree answered, ‘Should I give up my oil, by which both gods and men are honored, to hold sway over the trees?”
The trees sought to have a king, and they approached the Olive, the Fig, and the Vine trees. As good and as noble as kingship was, none of the trees were seduced by the offer.
They understood their purpose, and were content with their lot in God, so could not be swayed by the “good”. Unlike many, they resisted the temptation of sacrificing the ultimate at the altar of the immediate.
You are a tree of righteousness; the planting of the Lord. Not all opportunities are yours for the taking. Not all open doors are yours to walk into. Some are satanic traps to lure you away from your destiny, which is God Himself. Therefore, like the Apostles of old, whatsoever dreams that we have, ought to seem good to Him, first.
Acts 15:28 | NIV “It seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements.”
Prayer | Precious Holy Spirit! Help me not to be reckless with my life. Cause me to walk in Your wisdom. Deliver me from my fantasies, and from whatsoever that sabotages my surrender to Your agenda!
