Yesterday, we reflected on the God of all Comfort from the following story—especially how He insisted on sparing the people the stress and effort of fending for themselves.
Matthew 14:15-16 NIV
[15] As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.” [16] Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
Now, let’s take a closer look at the outcome of God’s love in the feeding of the multitude.
They started with ONLY.
And ended with over five thousand men completely satisfied, with twelve basketfuls of bread left over.
Matthew 14:17-21 NIV
[17] “We have here ONLY five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. [18] “Bring them here to me,” he said. [19] And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. [20] They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. [21] The number of those who ate was about FIVE THOUSAND MEN besides women and children.
When I look at the entire event, I see how God changed their story from ONLY to SURPLUS.
Isn’t it amazing?
The entire community started with ONLY. But at the end of the day, because of the help of a loving and compassionate God, they had a surplus.
This same Father of compassion, and God of all Comfort is with you right now through His Holy Spirit. He is with you. He is in you.
As you read this, the Holy Spirit is at work in your life, changing your story from only to surplus.
And soon, you’ll experience a surplus of financial provisions. A surplus of loving and loyal friends. A surplus of zeal and strength to move forward in life. A surplus of health and energy. A surplus of human and material resources to fulfill God’s assignment in your life.
