For The Good Of Others

Let’s start today’s Table Tuesday by reflecting on a passage from Paul’s letter to the Corinthian church.

1 Corinthians 11:23-24 NIV
[23] For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, [24] and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

Notice the bold and underlined: His Body was broken for us. His blood was shed. For us. He died on the cross. For us.

For you’ literally summarizes the life of Jesus Christ. He never lived for Himself. And even in death, He did it for us. Everything He did was for the good of others; not one thought about Himself. Not one moment of self-centeredness.

He is my Role Model. And I hope He is yours too.

Today, as we receive the bread as His body, as we break and eat it in remembrance of Him, I pray that our lives will be rid of all self-centeredness. I pray that we too will begin to live, be broken and even die for the good of others.
