Focus On The One He Sent

The human nature is laden with lots of weaknesses. People struggle with anger, laziness, lust, procrastination, and many other flaws. However, I want you to know today that the battle is over. You don’t have to fight your weaknesses for a second anymore; because the battle is not yours.  It’s not your place to fight your weaknesses.

I’d like you to ponder on this question for a while: Can you make yourself taller? You came into this world with a certain height and complexion of skin. I tell you this: It is easier to change your skin complexion than to change your habit.

You can be fooled into thinking that you can change some of these things. Then, you fight your weaknesses all you can; but, nothing changes. You might even end up in a worse state than when you started.

You’re not supposed to focus on your flaws. If you focus on your weaknesses, you might actually succeed in fooling yourself that they have gone. You might successfully sweep them under the rug, and delude yourself into thinking that they are no  longer there. Until one day, down the road, they spring up at an unexpected moment, and deliver a fatal blow to you.

So it’s not up to you to fight your weaknesses. If it were up to you to fight and defeat them, Jesus would not have come. There would be no point for God to send His son into the world to die. God sent His son because he recognized that no human can save himself. God sent Jesus Christ into the world in recognition of the fact that no one – no matter how strong willed, smart, or intelligent – can extricate himself from the vulnerabilities of the flesh.

God sent Jesus into this world to save you from your human frailties. And then He says the work that you need to do is to believe in the one he sent.

“Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one He has sent.”
~John 6:29

“Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”
~John 3:14

Jesus is your salvation from your human weaknesses. When you believe in the one God has sent – Jesus Christ – you are saved from your weaknesses. You do not overcome your flaws by keeping your mind on them, and always trying to fight them. You overcome them by shifting your focus from them.

Make a conscious shift from the weaknesses in your humanity, and focus your attention on the Lord. He is the one that is able to keep you from falling. Praise God!
