Rest is a sign of fulfillment, while quest is a sign of unfulfilment. This is why the scriptures say that “a full soul loathes honey, but to the hungry soul, every bitter thing is sweet.” Jesus makes it clear in Mathew 11:28-30, that we can only find rest for our souls in Him.
Anyone who loves this life will never find fulfilment. The quest for success, even for the seeming most ‘successful’, will never end. Because God has set eternity; a God-shaped hole, in the heart of man, that nothing else but Him can fill.
Contentment and fulfillment can only come by death – by absolute surrender of one’s will, ambition, and agenda to the Holy Spirit, otherwise the rat race will continue. May God enable you to cease from your labour, and enter His rest, to find rest for your soul.
Psalm 62:1 NIV | “My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.”
