Every Family Must Have An Identity

“Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation and all nations on earth will be blessed through him. For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.”
~Genesis 18:18-19

What is the way of the Lord?

The way of the Lord is the teachings, the doctrines, the faith, the principles, and the values of God. God had firmly established Abraham in His principles and truth. Consequently, He expected Abraham to direct his children to walk in His ways.

God wants you to do the same today. God requires that as His child, you should lead your family to walk in His ways.

However, if you don’t know the way of the Lord, you can’t build a family for God. The way of the Lord should be the foundation on which you build. And if you are not personally walking in it, on what ground are you then going to build?

My biological father is my role model in fatherhood. In my first book, I thanked him for setting my feet on the path of truth. He teaches that every family must have a vision, an identity, and a message. Also, every father must have a vision for his family.

My father’s vision for our family was simple: He wanted children that will

  • serve God,
  • and be independent nations of domination.

Those were his two visions, and my siblings and I have continued to pursue them all our lives.

He had a clear cut understanding of what he wanted to do, and from the first day he made sure that he taught us his faith and principles. That is why I quote my father a lot when preaching. He taught me how to get married, how to choose my wife, how to serve God, and many other things. All through my life I can remember the things he taught regarding different aspects of life.

Unfortunately, not everyone has a father like mine. Nevertheless, you should be a father like that to your children. Even if your own childhood experience wasn’t anything like mine, you should not pass on the same stupidity to your family. Many folks can’t quote their fathers; they can’t remember some wise teaching or principle from their father. If that is your story, God has become your father, and by His Spirit, He will enable you to be a real father to your children in Jesus’ name.
