Don’t Utter Every Thought

“But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment, for every careless word that they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”
~Matthew 12:36

What you say matters. Every word that leaves your mouth counts. Jesus said in the above scripture that you will give account on the day of judgment, for every careless word you’ve spoken. On the day of reckoning, your careless words will come back to haunt you. At the season of harvest, they will manifest in your life with the attendant consequences.

It is unfortunate because a lot of us speak carelessly. For instance, you come into a place where everybody is joking, everybody’s in a light mood and saying all sort of things; you lose consciousness of who you are, you forget that you are a new creation, you forget that you are a life-giving spirit; and then you join in the conversation and you begin to make thoughtless remarks.

Now a day of reckoning is going to come when you will have to give account for those careless words you uttered. So you ought to be careful, that at every moment you’re not speaking careless words.

This means that it’s not every thought that comes to your mind that should be converted into words. Don’t utter every thought that pops into your mind. Some things should not come out; some things should die in your mind. Why? Because the Bible says:

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
~Proverbs 18:21

You are a life-giving spirit, and that means that you can give life to things. You can transform dead situations around you. And how do you do that? Through what you say!
