“While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, ‘Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.’ He replied to him, ‘Who is my mother, and who are my brothers? Pointing to His disciples, he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.
~Matthew 12:46-50
Jesus redefined family from the standpoint of His God-given mission, whoever does the will of my Father in heaven. He wasn’t moved by the tradition- inspired expectations of his biological siblings. He was fully preoccupied with His destiny-based relationships — that is, His family.
Your family is a community of people devoted to your mission. God gives you people to assist you in the mission that He designed you for. Anybody who is sincerely and fully dedicated to your God-given mission is a member of your family. Your family wholeheartedly makes sacrifices for your mission – painstakingly giving their time, talent, energy, resources towards that mission.
You have a mission in this world; everybody has a mission. There is a reason you were born. You are sent. And your assignment is the reason the Father sent you into this world.
God has given me a huge insight on the subject self-discovery. In a lot of my blog posts, you will come across the phrase, discover yourself. To discover yourself includes discovering your assignment. And it is your responsibility to discover yourself and your assignment, so you can discover your family.
To recognize those the Father has designated to help you in your assignment, you must first discover the manifestation of the Father that He has sent you to express. Without a full understanding of your God-given assignment, you won’t be able to identify the people God has assigned to help you with that vision. So, discover yourself and discover your family!
