Daily: Pray for Contentment

The bible enjoins us to pray and continue to pray. Faithfulness in prayer is a hallmark of successful Christian living. Have a daily prayer list with which you pen down requests to God.

An important virtue that you need to ask God daily to give you is contentment. You need to ask God for help to be content with what you have. As Christians, we must live simple, quiet, and content lives.

“…for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
~1Timothy 2:2

All around us today, people are so restless, running up and down, and desperate. And you wonder, “What are they looking for?” You need to be contented in your lot, in what God has given to you.

Contentment brings peace to your heart.

“But godliness with contentment is great gain.”
~1Timothy 6:6

There are a lot of pastors who still want to be business men. It’s just pathetic. The church, for goodness sake, should be a non-profit organization. But what is happening today is that, due to lack of contentment, men of God are dabbling into things they shouldn’t dabble with. If you are called to be a priest, then it is important that you understand that there’s a way a man of God should live. A preacher should live a simple, quiet, and humble life. But when a preacher now desires to live like a banker, or a politician, he sets himself up for diverse temptations.

This is why in some churches you see people selling all sorts of things: anointing oil, holy water, candles, books, CD’s. The church is now a business place because some people are not content with their calling. If as a man of God, you want to be a business man, get out of the church, hustle outside in the business arena and make money. But if you want to serve God, then be content.

“On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple area and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts.”
~
Mark 11:17

Part of what I tell myself as a preacher, is that there are things I might never have. And that’s okay, that’s perfect. I’m content with my calling. I understand that godliness with contentment is great gain.

So ask God in your daily morning devotion to help you to be content with what you have.

Memory Verse:
1Timothy 6:6
“But godliness with contentment is great gain.”

Prayer:
O Lord, please give me the enablement to be content with what You have given me. Help me not to set myself up for the devil’s temptations, in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
