What does it mean to contend for the faith? The Bible says that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood. But against principalities and powers of wickedness.
The truth is that Jesus has already destroyed those powers on the cross. So we don’t have to fight the devil or any of his demons. Glory to God!
But if you have any spiritual awareness you can tell there is some type of resistance or ‘fight’ going on.
I present these scriptures for your consideration:
1 Timothy 6:12| “Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
Jude 1:3| “Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.”
Here the apostle Paul was giving insight to us concerning the fight that we face. He calls it the good fight of faith.
Simply put, faith is what God has said to you. The problem is when God speaks to you, it’s coming from His mind to you in this realm where it is usually contrary to what you actually see or how you feel at the moment. There will be a struggle to believe what He is saying to you; this is the fight of faith.
Paul encourages us to contend for the faith. So that means there will be some effort you have to put in. This will take strength and endurance.
I will share with you one way to prepare yourself to fight or contend for the faith.
Jude 1:20| ”But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit,“
When God speaks to you, take time to pray over the word/ vision in the Spirit. In this way you begin to strengthen your resolve to believe what God has said no matter how different it may look to your current situation. While you are praying in the Spirit the Holy Spirit strengthens you to will and to do what God may be telling you to do.
So take the words you’ve received from God back to Him in prayer. Strengthen yourself to fight and contend for the faith by praying in the Spirit. Before you know it you will be enjoying the victory!
