“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work.”
~Ecclesiastes 4:9
The only reason two are better than one is if they have a good return for their work. That means there must be a common purpose. You must not joke with this, if you want to build a strong and godly family.
From the first day, you have to make sure that your children understand what that mission is. Once a child comes into the world, that child should know what his parents believe and why they believe it. That child should know what the mission of the family is – that is, what the family stands for, what God has called them to do – from day one. Your children should be trained and directed according to the principles and values of the word of God; and according to your mission.
One of the hallmarks of successful families is that generation after generation – even in the secular world – they’re in the same family business. The truth is that sometimes, it takes several generations to realize the vision of a family. It might take several generations to realize the full promise of God for a family. So you must make sure your children walk in your ways, and their own children down the line.
This is why God revealed Himself as the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob:
“God also said to Moses, ‘Say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers – the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob – has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.’”
~Exodus 3:15
God became the God of Abraham; and Abraham made sure his son, Isaac got the same walk with God. From the God of Isaac, God became the God of Jacob, Abraham’s grandson; and then the God of Israel. The whole nation has continued to follow that God even to this present time.
