Be The Light Of Your Family

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
~Matthew 5:13 -16

Be the light in your family. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, love and godly living, be an effective witness for God in your family.

Your family should follow you to God. In our family, for instance, I have members whose siblings followed and came to God. They were able to successfully lead their siblings to God through their effective Christian testimony. A particular sister is fondly called ‘the woman by the well’ by her siblings, making reference to the Samaritan woman who led her town to Jesus after an encounter with Him by the well. The full story is found in the fourth chapter of the gospel according to John.

Conversely, there are those whose siblings find it hard to follow. This is because their lives are miserable, terrible, and they’ve become obstacles to the salvation of their families.

It’s not enough to hide inside your room and finish your prayer; afterwards, go out and be the light to the rest of your family. Being the light begins in your family, then you can extend it to others.

If you can’t call your father and talk to him about Jesus, then something is wrong. If you can’t sit down with your mother and talk to her about Jesus, something is wrong. If you can’t sit down with your siblings and confidently talk to them about Jesus, something is wrong with your Christian testimony.  And that has to stop. It means that your testimony is weak. But when your testimony is strong, you can stand upright and talk to your family about God. You can bring them together, knowing that you love and care about them.

Memory Verse:
Matthew 5:13 -16
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Prayer:
Lord, help me to be the light of my family. Please take away anything that hinders my Christian testimony, in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
