Acknowledge Your Weaknesses And Let The Holy Spirit Waken You!

Knowledge is often overrated. We live at a time when there is so much knowledge: Books. Courses. Lessons. Yet there is so little transformation taking place in most people’s lives. Why is that?

Well, Jesus tells us why.

Bible Study | John 13:17 NIV
Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

Clearly there is a difference between knowing something and doing it. Furthermore, the blessing is not in the knowledge. The blessing is in the doing.

It is one thing to know what you ought to do. It is another thing to be able to do it.

Frequently, we mistakenly assume that knowing something automatically translates into doing it. And so the statement: ‘knowledge is power.’

But, you see, knowledge is not really power. It is potential power. It’s got power in it, no doubts. But that power becomes an experience only through putting that knowledge to work.

So, why aren’t more of us putting what we know into practice?

Again, Jesus tells us why.

Mark 14:38 NIV
Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. You know what you ought to do, you really want to do it. Yet you can’t. Because you lack the power to do what you know to do.

A crippled man knows exactly how to walk. He knows how to walk more than most people. After all, he spends most of his time watching people walk and wishing he could do the same.

He can teach seminars on why you should walk, and how to walk. He has the desire to walk. He knows how to walk.

So, why doesn’t he walk?

Is it a lack of willingness? No.

Is it a lack of knowledge? Of course not!

His problem is neither the lack of willingness to walk, nor the lack of knowledge of how to walk.

His problem is the lack of the power to apply what he knows.

What the crippled man needs is not more teaching on the benefits of walking, or how to walk. What he needs is the power to walk: a miracle!

So, for instance, I can spend an eternity here telling you about the benefits of starting your day before dawn with the Holy Spirit. All of that knowledge, however, will be worthless if you lack the power to put it to work.

But look at this:

Isaiah 50:4 NIV
The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.

His waking up didn’t come from His will power.
It didn’t come from the alarm clock.

It came from the Holy Spirit!

So, today, I will ask you to:

  1. Acknowledge your weakness to apply these teachings.
  2. Ask the Holy Spirit to waken you. Ask Him to quicken you. Ask Him to help you do all that you ought to do.

And may the LORD grant your prayers in Jesus Name!

#AMEN!
