Let us draw inspiration today from one of the most amazing and beautiful stories in the entire bible.
Mark 12:41-44 NIV
[41] Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. [42] But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. [43] Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. [44] They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
An easily overlooked portion of this story is that Jesus sat down and watched people giving their offerings. This is very significant. It shows that giving is extremely important—so important that Jesus actually sat down to watch people giving.
When God Himself takes note of your giving, it can create a ripple of inspiration that outlives you and continues to the end of time!
Another striking thing about this story is the socio-economic status of this woman. She was poor. And she was a widow.
Yet, according to Jesus, she put more into the treasury than all the others.
Jesus tells us why: “…she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
She practically committed financial suicide! A poor widow, out of her poverty, put in everything — all she had to live on!
This woman’s giving is the only kind of giving that gets the attention of God.
Her level of giving is supernatural. It is only possible by the help of the Holy Spirit.
May the Holy Spirit Himself lift you to this level of giving in Jesus name.
As you give today, do not just give because you have it; because it is quite convenient for you. Rather, yield to the Holy Spirit and let Him enable you to give like that poor widow..
