A Family Devotion in Every Home

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.”
~ Mark 1:35

Cultivating an early morning daily devotion is a prerequisite for an effective Christian living. Just like Jesus, start your day very early in the morning by communing with your heavenly Father. Beyond your personal devotion, however, comes your family devotion.

If you start your personal prayer devotion by 4-o’clock in the morning, by the time you finish the requests on your daily prayer list, it will be at least 5-o’clock. So what do you do next? You bring your family together.

You must carry your family along. In our home church, and our wider communion of home churches, I instructed every family to be in prayer by 5-o’clock in the morning. In the same manner, gather your family together.  Let there be a family devotion in every home. Bring together all the people that live with you in the same house — unless you live alone — together for prayer and bible study every morning.

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown and trampled by men. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
~Matthew 5:13 -16

We must be the salt in our homes. If you have love in your heart for your family, and if you have a good Christian character, running a family devotion won’t be a difficult thing. So make sure you carry your family along in your walk with God. This is essential for building a strong and godly home.

Memory Verse:
Matthew 5:13 -15
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown and trampled by men. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.”

Prayer:
Lord, strengthen me to run a family devotion in my home, in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
