In the weeks and days leading up to this 100 days fast, the Holy Spirit opened my heart to what He wants His people to achieve during this season. He has told us to ask Him only one thing – that is, to have a single prayer focus. This has therefore become an important emphasis for this prayer season.
A 100 days is a long time to fast. It demands tremendous stamina, discipline, and perseverance. An important secret to making it successfully to the end is to fix your eyes on the joy set before you.
Here’s what I mean:
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” ~ Hebrews 12:2
The cross was an essential part of Jesus success. However, it was not an enjoyable experience by any stroke of the imagination. So, He had to endure it. He was, however, able to go through the pain successfully because He focused on the joy set before Him. He had His mind set on His ultimate goal, and as a result, He persevered and won.
You will definitely enjoy some of the phases on your journey to success; but others will need to be endured. The journey to greatness is certainly lined with obstacles – those frightening things you see when you take your eyes off your goals and dreams. However, if you have intense passion and determination for your dreams, you will easily scale the obstacles.
Higher heights
The theme for this season of praying and fasting is ‘Breakthrough to Higher Heights,’ and the individual that best typifies what the Lord wants to do in our lives at this time is Joseph. One moment he was an alien, slave, and prisoner in a country. The next moment he had become the prime minister of the same country. He experienced a breakthrough to higher heights; and this is what the Lord has shown He wants to happen in our lives during these 100 days of fasting.
It is important for us to keep our eyes on the goal of the journey.
Heights speak of levels, realities, experiences, relationships, productive capacities, possessions, and results.
Capture
Now, with this understanding of heights in mind, search your heart to capture a picture of the next height you truly desire to attain.
Think of it this way: “What new levels, realities, experiences, relationships, productive capacities, possessions, and results do I STRONGLY DESIRE to attain within this time frame?”
Do not answer this question superficially – off the top of your brain. You must dig deep into your heart for the authentic answer. It must be something you deeply and intensely desire.
It must also be something you truly believe is possible for you to achieve with God’s help.
However, ensure that it is big and strategic enough to guarantee your success for the rest of your time on earth, and for future generations.
Develop
Then clarify, sharpen, and define this picture. God has asked us during this 100 days fast to capture a single prayer focus. Make sure it is strategic enough to ensure your success in life. Develop and sharpen your single prayer focus. Remember it must be authentic and specific.
As we spend these 100 days with the king of kings in prayer, fasting and meditation, we will like Joseph move from prison to palace – that is, we will breakthrough to higher heights.
