5 Blessings Of The Generous

The blessings that come with giving liberally and cheerfully to God are of a certain nature and dimension. A generous man enjoys the blessings of God which money cannot buy. These blessings can only come from God, and they saturate the lives of the generous.

“I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. They are always generous, and lend freely; their children will be blessed. Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever. For the Lord loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. They will be protected forever…”
~Psalm 37:25-28

In the above Psalm, at least five blessings of the righteous – that is those who are always generous and lend freely – are mentioned.

              1.       Their children will be blessed.

The offspring of those who are generous are blessed by God. This blessing comes with giving voluntarily to God and can’t be bought with money.

            2.       You will dwell in the land forever.

The generous will dwell in the land forever. This is another huge blessing that comes with giving to God. The generous don’t only enjoy financial blessings, their lives are also filled with rewards that money cannot fetch.

           3.       The Lord loves the just.

The Lord loves the generous. Apostle Paul in writing to the Corinthian church says that God loves a cheerful giver.

“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
~1 Corinthians9:7

Note that Apostle Paul didn’t say God loves a prayer warrior, a singer, a preacher, or a churchgoer. He didn’t even say that God loves a giver. Rather, he said that God loves a cheerful giver.

This is an important blessing that is enjoyed by the generous – God just loves them. The phrase “God loves” means that God prefers.  God prefers a generous person. And that’s what we call favour.  God’s preference for such a person plays out as divine favours.

When God prefers you, things happen in your life that folks can’t understand. A lot of favours flood your life. But if you are not generous, the favour of God will be rare in your life. When this is the case, your life will be full of struggles, difficulties, and frustration. You won’t enjoy these blessings that come with giving cheerfully to God.

              4.       The Lord will not forsake His faithful ones

The next awesome blessing from God on the generous is that they are not forsaken by God. God never abandons His faithful ones.

             5.       They will be protected forever.

The fifth blessing mentioned here is that they will be protected forever. God keeps them safely out of harm’s way.

Memory Verse:
Psalm 37:25-28
“I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. They are always generous, and lend freely; their children will be blessed. Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever. For the Lord loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. They will be protected forever…”

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, please help me to give generously and cheerfully to You at all times, in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
